Why is ABHR at the ‘point of care’ so important?
The ‘point of care’ is the patient’s immediate surroundings in which healthcare staff-to-patient contact or treatment is taking place. It represents the time and place where there is the highest likelihood of transmission of infection via the hands of the healthcare staff. Ensuring that staff have the means to clean their hands at this point is the first step in stopping the spread of infection.
