Why is ABET accreditation so important?
ABET accreditation is assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards established by the profession for which it prepares its students. An accredited engineering program must meet the quality standards set by the engineering profession and an accredited computer science and information systems programs must meet the quality standards set by the computing profession. For the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences at Liberty, the biggest difference ABET accreditation will make is for those planning on furthering their education. Most every graduate program in engineering requires an ABET-approved undergraduate degree. If you have a desire to study beyond a baccalaureate, this will be important for you. When we launch a master’s degree in engineering, it will also be an important acclaim for our graduate students to be studying at a school where the individual programs have achieved ABET accreditation.
