The problem here is that a world government requires that individual nations surrender a large amount of their sovereignty. We’ve already faced this issue twice in this country’s history. The first time was when we transitioned from the Article of Confederation to the Constitution in the late 1780s. Under the Articles the states had basically acted like 13 separate nations, each having its own coinage, trade tariffs, foreign treaties, etc. In order to form our more perfect Union the States had to surrender most of these powers to the new Federal Government. Many of the most rabid revolutionaries (like Patrick Henry) were totally against the plan. There was an unequal sharing of certain financial obligations that were assumed by the Federal Government, and there was a major dispute between large and small states.
