Why is a small particle size of Beta glucan important?
Beta glucans are absorbed through the intestine wall. Visualize the intestine wall as made of mesh and it becomes clear a small particle will go through the mesh easier than a huge particle. Large particle size Beta glucans are inexpensive because they are not processed and certified as micronized to an average preferably of 1 micron or less. Whether you take 1 milligram or 1,000 milligrams of Beta glucan, only the small particles will be absorbed and the remainder just passes through and is expelled. 1 milligram of small particle Beta glucan is just as effective as 1,000 milligrams of roughage glucans if only 1 out of the 1,000 milligrams of the large particle roughage glucan is absorbed. Q: Why are some Beta glucans so much more expensive than others? A: To reduce the Beta glucan to a small particle size of 1 micron average or less is at present very expensive, involving multiple processing steps to reduce the glucan particle size and then to assure the Beta glucan does not re-aggreg
