Why is a size 6 brush in one brand different than a 6 in another?
Basically there is no standardization of brush sizes. A manufacturer may label a brush any size they wish though brushes sized in inches or fractions of inches run pretty true to size in width but they may vary considerably in length and thickness. Many, many years ago the term “French size” was used. In French sizing, 6 would refer to 6mm. “French size” was also used to explain the difference in size between fine hair or sable brushes and the bristle equivalent being English or American size. Bottom line —–when buying a brush, the best solution to the size issue is buy what fits your need not because of the size on the handle.
