Why is a sheeps heart so slippery and shiny? What does the heart look like?

Well, it the first part of your question depends on where you obtained this sheep heart. If you get it directly out of the sheep, then the first person that answered is right- it is the visceral tissue, and connective tissue, that is very moist. If you received this heart as part of a dissection kit, sometimes they take off that connective tissue for you… depending on who you buy it from. All dissection specimens are submerged in a substance called “formaldehyde”, that makes them slippery. This is also why the sheep heart is shiny. A sheep heart looks pretty much like any other heart in terms of color… it is a brownish, pinkish color, with off white pads of fat. I’ve dissected many of these. The internal structure looks about the same color as the pinkish surface.
