Why is a Rock Pebble Parakeet a Good Pet?
Parrot lovers will certainly be interested in the rock pebbler parakeet. There are even those who would suggest that it would make for a beginner’s first bird. It is scientifically classified as Polytelis anthopeplus and first gained public attention as early as 1831 through the writings of Edward Lear, an English author who was famous for his wit. This bird is highly social, easily trained as a pleasant talker. The rock pebbler is likewise commonly called the rock peplar, murray smoker, marlock parakeet, regent parakeet, and black-tailed parakeet. There are two recognized species of the rock pebbler parakeet: the eastern P. anthopeplus monarchoides, and the western P. anthopeplus anthopeplus. These birds are native to woodlands in southwestern and southeastern Australia.
