Why is a Physical Therapist the best person to help me with my injury? What is the difference between Massage Therapist and a Physical Therapist?
A Physical Therapist utilizes a wide variety of techniques and treatments to address the ROOT CAUSE of the problem. A Physical Therapist will first perform an initial evaluation, identifying postural imbalances, decreased range of motion, decreased joint/muscle mobility, gait and biomechanical abnormaties, etc. and then creat a program to correct all dysfunctions. We often use various hands-on techniques such as Strain/Counterstrain techniques, joint mobilization, soft tissue manipulation, range of motion, postural alignment, exercise instruction, stretching, shoewear modification, movement modification, as well as modalities such as heat, cold, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation. Physical Therapy is the most comprehensize treatment for orthopedic dysfunctions and allows the patient to be an active participant in the rehabilitation process. We also educate and teach each patient on how to prevent an injury from reoccuring.
