Why is a lasso used in a mexican-hispanic wedding ceremony?
The lasso tradition generally utilizes a rope or a long strand of rosary beads, which are placed in a figure eight pattern across the shoulders of the husband and wife to be. In most cases, someone important to the couple, generally parents or members of the wedding party, place the lasso upon the bride and groom once they have exchanged their vows. Once the ceremony is completed, the priest removes the lasso and presents it to the bride as a keepsake.
