Why is a dalmation a fire house dog?

0

Mostly because of their unique pelt, whcih can stand out on a dark street. A long time ago, dalmnations used to run along side and ahead of the horses while the firetruck was going towards the fire. The dog’s acted as a type of warning to get people to clear the streets for the truck to get their more quickly. When people saw dalmnations running, they knew that a firetruck was coming and a fire was burning, and thus got off the streets more quickly, so that the truck that followed the dogs had a clear path to run. Other dogs could easily be mistaken for other breeds, because very few have a pelt as unique as the spots of a dalmnation, and those that did where usually not athletic dogs that could run, or where commonly used as normal pets or farm dogs, so people might have mistaken any other breed as a stray and the effect wouldn’t have been as great.
