A custom herbal formula is better than an off-the-shelf formula because it can be modified for your specific imbalance. Many practitioners use pre-made traditional formulas. I start with a traditional formula (who am I to re-invent the wheel?) and then modify it (add and remove certain herbs or adjust the ratio of certain herbs) based on your specific needs.
