Why is a cup of tea, hotter (temperature) than cup of coffee?

Answer Hello Amanda, There is no physical reason why a cup of tea should be hotter than a cup of coffee. The reason might lie in the preparation of the drinks. Coffee is brewed in advance and then usually served from a large pot (where it has already cooled down a bit), while a cup of tea might be prepared by serving hot water and a tea bag. This water needs to be very hot in order for the tea aromas to be extracted from the tea leaves. For black tea you need nearly boiling water, for green tea you let the water cool down a bit before you add the tea. In addition to that, if you add milk or cream to the coffee, you add a cold liquid which cools the coffee down.
