Why is a 14.336MHz IF chosen for FM?

0

The FM IF of 14.336MHz is designed for compatibility with DAB inputs and to minimize BOM. By using a sub-sampling strategy, the 14.336MHz IF sampled by the IF ADC at 8.192 MHz would result in an alias image at 2.048 MHz, which is the same as that for DAB. Hence, the input to the baseband from the ADC is the same for both DAB and FM.
