Why is 17-year-old sophomore Juan Carlos Rivera in the news today?
On Tuesday morning, 17-year-old Juan Carlos Rivera was stabbed to death in a fight that took place in a high school courtyard. After hearing the news, parents flocked to Coral Gables High School to immediately pick up their children. A fellow student at the Florida school, whose name has not been released, was arrested for the murder. Students who witnessed the fight said it started over a girl. The attacker pulled out a switchblade or box cutter and stabbed Rivera in the chest several times. Student Felix Cedeno told CBS, “I saw the guy bleeding, I saw a guy in pain holding his chest and as soon as he fell to the ground I ran over to help him as soon as I could.” Miami-Dade School Superintendent Alberto M.
