Ans.: This is because ALP works only with ACII, while the GIST card can use both PC-ACII as well as ACII. By default, the GIST card is in PC-ACII. Starting ALP will switch it to ACII. If your GIST data file is in PC-ACII, it is tempting to switch the GIST card to PC-ACII from the Alt menu. However, on returning to the opening menu, the display is disturbed. Therefore, it is advisable to convert PC-ACII files to ACII before using them in ALP.
