Why IGRASS2009 in Sendai, Japan?
After recognizing the importance of remote sensing and gaining experience of hosting IGARSSf93 in Tokyo, we believe we can host the IGARSS2009, one of the most important international meetings for remote sensing in Japan. Since the IGARSSf93 was held in Tokyo, the most famous city for visitors from outside Japan, we decided to host the IGARSS2009 outside the Tokyo area, in the city of Sendai. Sendai is located in the northern part of the main island of Japan, 350km from Tokyo, and 100 min. by express train. The climate of Sendai in summer is comfortable. A very beautiful natural environment can be found inside the city, where there are good convention facilities for international conferences. The Sendai area also has attractive destinations for tourists. Sendai is an academic town having 10 universities. The history of engineering related to remote sensing technologies is also remarkable.
