Why human babies are dependant?

Good question, here is my guess: Many animal babies are born in the type of environment where, unless they can defend themselves from a young age they would die. Survival of the fittest has made them evolve to be self dependent from birth. A lot of other animals, mammals in particular, do need their mothers to survive just like we do. It just comes down to the environment they live in, there is no immediate threat to their life so they haven’t had to evolve that way. Humans have the skills to raise young who are born totally independent, whereas other animals don’t have the brain capacity to do that.
