Why haven the relatively similar romance languages been replaced by something more sensible, like Interlingua?
• Well the first step would be to have a lot of people speaking it all the time and only knowing Interlingua. Every time you write or speak in English you hurt that cause. Every time you write or speak in Interlingua you get ignored because no one understands you. • Due to culture and language drift Interlingua would be rendered as incomprehensible as everything else. Far better to create a secondary language that Romance languages can translate in and out of easily (it would only need a small set of verbs, nouns and such). It wouldn’t drift (because no one would speak in daily life) and would be quickly accepted into use because people aren’t being asked to discard huge tracts of their culture in favor of someone else’s idea of “sensible”. • It Bugs Me that people still make a big deal about promoting international languages, despite how in a generation or two, translation software will be so sophisticated that anyone with a PDA will be able to talk to any person or read any document,
