Why have the volume and brightness function keys stopped working on my laptop?

Wow, nice to hear someone has got the same problem as me. I managed to resolve it anyway. The long story: I’ve bought a Sony VAIO VGN NR21Z, which came with Windows Vista Installed, and a crapload of other Sony Apps. So I’ve formatted it and put a triple boot on it: Vista/Ubuntu/Leopard. Then Function Keys stopped working on Ubuntu and Vista (just the controls for the screen brightness, anyway). I managed to solve the problem by reinstalling the Vista version that came out of factory with my Vaio. You do this by using the “Vaio recovery utitliy” and choosing “Restore C: drive” or something similar. This brings your laptop at the original state. It worked for me,even if I’m still managing to make function keys work on Ubuntu. Hope this helps.
