Why have the opening titles and theme music to EastEnders changed?

From Monday 7 September 2009 the opening titles and theme music to EastEnders have undergone a makeover. The old title sequence has been replaced with a slick, modern sequence featuring satellite photography combined with 3D mapping courtesy of Graphic Designer Peter Anderson and new theme music by composer Simon May. This has given the new opening titles a very contemporary feel, whilst retaining many of it’s traditional values.
