Why have scientists not cloned famous/infamous characters from the past?

This question reminds me of a great film I saw in 1978 starring Gregory Peck as the infamous Dr. Mengele from Auswitch who took half a litre of Hitler’s blood in 1943 and many years later when this had become theoretically possible cloned several Hitlers. Technology today is not far off from making this possible, but when the film was made they realised that a clone had to be brought up in similar circumstances, so they planned to murder 94 men at the same age Hitler’s father was when he died and be brought up by domineering mothers.
