Why have rubbish charges risen so much?

Council like other business owners has been hit with higher costs such as labour and power as well as higher costs for rubbish trucks which are now $400,000 each. This year Council will also introduce a weekly recycling service. Many residents have complained that by the end of each fortnight their recycling bin is packed and newspapers and other recycling material goes not in the yellow top bin but in the general waste bin. The Council has heard these comments and will gradually introduce a weekly recycling bin pick up so as to encourage every one to increase their recycling.
