Why have national political conventions lost the main purpose of choosing nominees?

0

The national convention use to be where the part voted to select their candidate (before they had ways of communication like we do now), party representatives would be chosen to travel and learn about a candidate and vote for the person they thought would do the best. Now over time technology has progressed so much that we let the people in each state cast votes, not just representatives from each state go to a convention and cast votes. With better technology the meaning of the convention has been less significant in terms of choosing a candidate, but they use it as a boost to their poll numbers and get out their issues.
