Why have efforts at Montana property tax reform failed in the past?
One reason is because they have often been partisan efforts (Republican vs. Democrat) or geographic efforts (western Montana vs. eastern Montana). Another reason is because the problem has never been as acute as it is today (see Ad Valorem Property Tax – What’s wrong with the current system? on our Home Page). And a final reason is simply because none of these past efforts have come from a groundswell of public support – demanding legislative action.
