Why have buses been given all the benefits instead of cars?
A.Every bus can carry the equivalent of 15 or more cars. If we were to try and cater for increasing numbers of journeys in individual cars, it would need a huge investment in road building and road widening. This is neither practical or desirable and would be environmentally damaging and unsustainable. The policy is now to reduce the need to travel and promote better public transport options within the existing transport network, as well as targeted investment in additional road capacity at critical points. The ZIP A3 Corridor is a key corridor for public transport, with potential for growth, supported by modern comfortable buses. The considerable improvements for buses have been managed so that they have a minimal impact on other road users, with scope for further improvements to bus services beyond the corridor in the future.
