As a town council the chairman is designated as a Town Mayor unless he or she decides otherwise. The role is different from the previous Borough Mayor as it combines an executive and ceremonial role and is not limited to a single year. When did you become a councillor? I have had several spells on Parish and Borough starting in 1979 and have been a councillor since 2003. Off and on I have been a councillor for nearly 12 years. Why did you become a councillor? I had always had an interest in politics and how we were governed. When the opportunity came along to actually become involved I was intrigued to see whether I could contribute anything to the process. This was difficult while working but after retirement I could devote more of my time and who knows maybe make a useful contribution. Did your faith play any part in the process?
