Why have a Neurologist review a test for a “behavioral disorder” like ADD/ADHD?
Neurologist/Electroencephalographer interpretation of the EEG and QEEG is valuable in the field of neurotherapy. Many conditions treated with neurotherapy have been shown to have QEEG profiles which can predict therapeutic outcome with medication and other treatments. These have included the subtyping of disorders previously thought to be homogeneous, such as OCD and ADD/ADHD. Others, such as epilepsy and head injury have distributions of the activity which can predict the locus of intervention. Does insurance cover any of theses procedures? Neurodiagnostic testing is covered by most insurance. Most insurance covers between 70%-80% of charges. The test needs to be ordered by a physician, although, in some cases a Psychologist can order testing. Either way, the request must be from a member of the patient’s health plan.
