Why have 1 million leaflets been circulated?
A. The leaflets were sent out to all health food stores to hand to consumers in July 2006 asking the public to write letters to MPs and MEPs because they need to act NOW to secure Upper Safe Levels and re-address the problem of missing substances. Most MPs who voted for the regulations without much consideration now realise how serious this situation is. They are now concerned their constituents will lose products to protect their health, as will consumers generally, and the new rules have serious implications for specialist health food retailers, Practitioners and specialist health supplement manufacturers. The debate held in the House of Lords on 30th June 2003 resulted in Peers voting by 132 votes to 70 to revoke the proposals. This excellent result should have encouraged the members of the Second Standing Committee on Delegated Legislation (SSCDL) to think twice about the effect on all sides before they recommended acceptance of the legislation.
