Why hasn the tomb of Anthony and Cleopatra been found before now?
In consideration of what site would have seemed most suitable to bury Cleopatra the Queen of Egypt, one needs to be aware of what influenced the thinking of the time: The Ptolemy family that ruled Egypt were of Greek (that is, Macedonian) ancestry stemming from the Ptolemy who was a general in the army of Alexander the Great. Egypt that had been conquered by Alexander the Great and Ptolemy obtained his lordship over it when the Greek empire split up after Alexander’s death. Cleopatra, as we call her, was Cleopatra the 7th. born 69 BC. Cleopatra the 5th was the name of Cleopatra’s mother, and her father was Cleopatra the 5th’s own brother, Ptolemy the 12th (Auletes). When 14 years old in 55 BC she was made co-regent with her father. Later in 51 BC: Ptolemy the 14th (Dionysos the 2nd ) ruled with his co-regent Cleopatra the 7th then banished her.
