Why hasn more effort been put into home electric generation with closed circuit turbine generators?

When I talk about closed circuit turbine generation think Steam Generation. However, what I am really talking about is a step beyond that where the pressure producing media is not super heated water, it is a gas with a low boiling point (ie ammonia, freon, butane, etc) and hence the need for a closed system. Ammonia (for instance) has a boiling point close to freezing for water and would easily generate a great deal of pressure with a simple solar collector such as those used for a hot water system. I understand the advantages and disadvantages of wind power but my question is really centered on my statements above.
