Why hasn Filipino food caught on like other Asian cuisines?
I’ve worked with Filipino people before and they’ve cooked for me and I’ve found the food delicious. They make this one kind of eggroll thing called a lumpia which I thought was just wonderful. Their food is pretty distinctive, too. It’s not particularly similar to Chinese or Thai or other Asian foods, so I agree it’s odd that it hasn’t taken off in popularity. I want to say that Filipinos tend to go into different kinds of business, and perhaps very few of them have made a real push into the restaurant business. But I don’t know if that explains it. I doubt it has anything to do with American prejudices or misconceptions. So really, I guess I don’t know the answer. And maybe it’s just going to take one trendy Filipino restaurant to get it all rolling. But I’d love to have some Filipino food near me, and I don’t. Hmph.
