Why hasn AUSD done something to address the funding inequities that mean Alameda gets less money per pupil than other school districts?
AUSD has taken a number of steps to address those funding inequities. Members of the AUSD board and administration, Alameda and state elected officials, and members of the community at large have tried a number of strategies to address the funding inequities, including pressuring our state representatives and their colleagues, holding protests, and organizing the mass delivery of letters. Unfortunately, AUSDs funding problems are much bigger than that one factor. Even if Alamedas funding was raised to the California statewide average, AUSD would receive less than $1 million more per year — far less than is needed to cover the funding gap today. Among other things, the Robles-Wong litigation also aims to address funding inequities.
