Why has UP decided to open a new intermodal ramp in Tucson?
Recent market studies reveal that the significant growth in the Tucson/Nogales/Mexico market will continue. Intermodally susceptible traffic in this region is estimated to be up to 150,000 loads annually. Business from the Mexican Maquiladoras is estimated to offer the greatest outbound opportunity, enabled by the Port of Tucson’s location in a foreign trade zone. The Port of Tucson will allow UP to offer faster and more consistent service to and from the major gateway points of Chicago, Memphis, St. Louis and Kansas City.
