Why has Toyota issued a recall for some models in November, 2009?
Today Toyota announced that they will replace the accelerator pedals on upwards of 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles that have been recalled in the U.S. This new move is to prevent and put to rest the problem where floor mats affected vehicles in several “unintentional” acceleration events and unfortunate accidents. Quoting the Associated Press, Yahoo News explains that the Toyota recall over gas pedal safety will not actually begin until January of 2010, and even then there is only a temporary fix to tide you over until April, when the updated accelerator pedals arrive at dealerships. The concern is that some pedals might stick to the mats, creating dangerous situations. An unrelated recall affects Tundra trucks that show unusual rust accumulation around the frame.
