Why has there been criticism in the press about counsellors then?

0

There is a controversy about some forms of long-term counselling, about the claims some counsellors make and about some forms of therapy which rely on “recovered memories” from the past. It has been alleged that some counsellors have tried to strongly influence their clients to follow a particular course of action. Part of the problem is that in the outside world anyone can claim to be a counsellor without needing any formal training or regulation. However, you can rest assured that none of these controversial practices form part of the Student Counselling Service’s approach. We work to a set Code of Ethics and Practice and are well supervised.
