Why has the War On Drugs been a failure and why does Kirk insist that such a war works?
Response: The war on drugs has been a failure mainly because there is a certain segment of the population that wants to take drugs and the fact that it is illegal has not stopped them. Since there is this demand it provides a market for drug selling and distribution. With the amount of money in the drug business, sellers and distributors can afford weapons to ply their trade, and as we have seen, they often “out-arm” the law. Although we can’t speak for Congressman Kirk, his actions have followed the script in the war on drugs: keep spending more money, pass more and harsher laws, fill up the prisons and people will stop taking drugs.
