Why has the Societys charitable investment rating in Forbes magazine declined?
The American Cancer Society of New York and New Jersey’s charitable investment – the amount devoted to its mission after administrative and fundraising expenses – is 76 percent. Nationally, on an enterprise wide, aggregated basis, the percentage of revenue allocated to mission slipped from 70 percent to 69 percent. In 2007, a one-time actuarial error identified by auditors was corrected and resulted in this drop.
