Why has the number of listings on the JSE decreased in recent years?

0

It used to be the case that only a broking member of the JSE was allowed to bring a company to the JSE for a listing. Additionally, the JSE listing requirements were in the past not as stringent as they perhaps could have been. This has however been addressed and not only has the JSE removed the restriction on who can bring a company to market but the listings requirements have also been significantly enhanced, in line with (and in some cases, beyond) international best practice. As a result, a number of companies which arguably should not have been listed in the first place, have de-listed over the past few years.
