Why has the Jehovahs Witness New World Translation Bible inserted an additional word in Philippians 2:9?
In my 1969 KIT, the word “other” is Not in brackets, neither is it in my 1961 NWT, However I looked at the newer editions and it is now in brackets. Bill C’s point that a word in brackets do not always add clarity but actually change the intent of the author. Use of the word [other] is meant to deflect away from connecting Jesus as God. This is blatantly clear in the NWT-KIT at Colossians 1:16-20 as to who is doing the Creating of ALL things. [other] is used to deflect meaning and make Jesus a created being What is fascinating is Paul continues to say in Phil: 9-11 that His name is above every name, and that at that name every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God the Father. This is a quote of Isaiah 45:21-23 where Jehovah is talking. So obviously Paul understands the connection. Would that the individual Jehovah Witness see the same. To the fellow who said: “Even Jesus himself knows and stated “The Father is Greater than I am” John 14:28.”
