Why has the film resonated with college students?
There is this quote by C. S. Lewis: Don’t try to be original; just tell the truth. We just say it like we saw it. I think that’s what resonates with this generation. Everyone is more globally minded, and they see the world getting smaller. They have a sense of ownership to the story because it’s not coming at them from a corporation or from a media conglomerate. How have students reacted to the movie? They say, “I feel like blinders have been taken off my eyes for the first time.” People feel thankful they know but also angry that there isn’t more done about it. We made this movie three years ago, and the war is still going on and children are being abducted. People who have followed us for three years are angry, and they want action. At this point it’s not just a tribal problem or a Uganda problem, it comes down to humanity.
