Why has the district had to spend so much for the land for the new Dreher?
The district attempted to acquire the land for Dreher in such a way that it would keep prices for the properties from escalating. These efforts only were successful with the initial property purchases. The Board of School Commissioners also had stated clearly that it would not use the power of eminent domain to take owner-occupied homes. The board and district staff knew that this would mean buying homes from owners who weren’t marketing their property and thus, in some instances, having to pay a premium for those properties.
