Why has Table P2 been reintroduced?
The YJB invests around £32m each year through YOTs for targeted youth crime prevention programmes such as YIP, YISP and parenting. This investment is a critical part of the strategies in England and Wales to reduce the number of first time entrants to the youth justice system. Performance in reducing first time entrants has been strong and the programmes led by YOTs have helped to achieve significant reductions. It is important that the YJB and YOTs are able to demonstrate to local and national funding partners that our evidence-based programmes continue to be effective as a core part of wider strategy to prevent offending under the Youth Crime Action Plan and wider policy. It has therefore been agreed that we will monitor a cohort of young people on the programmes we fund and you manage, in order to assess the contribution made towards reducing first time entrants further. There is an expectation that our programmes will at a national level help achieve at least a 1.5% reduction in FT
