Why has Romeo and Juliet remained so popular for nearly over 50 years?
Shakespeare wrote the play in the 1590s, a little more than 400 years ago. Romeo and Juliet fall in love even though they’re supposed to hate each other. Their families have been fighting for years. The world is full of groups that hate each other, because of political disagreements, racial or religious difference, and many other reasons. Many people are inspired by a story in which love between individuals is stronger than hatred between groups.
