Why has my Word document cahnged to WPS file extension?

change the extension to a .doc file, which is microsoft word format, while .wps is a word perfect file. If you have word perfect, open it there and save as .doc file instead of .wps. Open Office will open a .doc file by the way, but will not respond to macros if any are in the document.
