Why has my hen stopped eating her feed?

A. Hens can stop eating for a number of reasons. Firstly, are you giving her anything else besides her usual ration of layers pellets or corn? i.e. are you giving her any treats/ scraps? If you are, then it may be that you are spoiling her appetite by filling her up with titbits. Treats and scraps should not be given all the time. It is a bit like letting a child have the dessert before the dinner! It is best to stick to the hens normal every day feed for a few weeks, without giving them anything else. If the hens are hungry, then they will eat this. Only give them as much as they will eat to avoid wastage. We feed ours twice a day. A smaller amount in the morning, followed by a larger feed in the evening. This is good practice, especially in the winter months, as the feed gives the bird enough energy and a full belly to keep warm when the temperature drops at night. Tit bits are okay, but should be kept to a minimum. The hen may be eating when you are not around. It may be a good idea
