Why has my dogs behaviour changed?

Yes, this can happen when you neuter a dog. Neutering doesn’t always calm down a dog, but all the neutered dogs that I’ve met, both those neutered at an early age and those neutered at an older age, have been extremely calm compared to their age and breed – to the point where of the dogs I did not know beforehand, I often estimated him to be much older than he actually was based on his behaviour alone. Three of the neuters I know, I knew before they were neutered and for all three of them, their behaviour changed dramatically after neutering with them being much calmer after the neuter. This is also part of the reason why many people who work their dogs or who compete with them on a high level choose to keep their dogs intact. That said, I do live in a country where spaying and neutering are the exceptions rather than the rule, so my experience with neutered dogs is limited to something like 6-7 dogs.
