Why has my disc cleanup been running for 1.5days without completing whilst using 100%CPU???
First, force the computer to shut off by pressing the power button until it shuts completely off. Let it sit and cool down. Then restart it. If you don’t get any messages, etc. and it seems to run ok, then start burning everything you don’t absolutely NEED on the hard drive to CDs. The message you got that said you don’t have enough disc space is to be heeded! You want to ALWAYS keep at least 25% of your hard drive empty. 33% “Free Space” is much better if at all possible. After you’ve backed up all the unecessary (but wanted) files onto CD then get rid of them from the hard drive to make more room. After you’ve freed up as much space as possible on the hard drive by deleting and/or uninstalling stuff you don’t use/need try running the disc cleanup utility again. If it runs ok, then set ScanDisk to run upon re-boot and re-boot the computer allowing ScanDisk to run. Then Defrag. NOW you’re ready to install updates. After updating, run ScanDisk and Defrag again. Set a Restore Point. You’
