Why has Bloody Sunday produced such different historical interpretations?
Hi, Assuming you mean Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland in 1972, I think following is outline (sorry if I am saying anything you know already). – Ireland was divided into Northern and Republic in 1922, aim was to have North for Protestants who wanted to remain in the UK and South for Catholics who wanted independence. The Irish Republican Army who had fought for Independence split into a wing supporting the split and a wing opposed to it which determined to fight Britain’s continuing presence in the North. – BUT Northern Ireland had a population one third of which was Catholic and most reasonable historians/ commentators (and in this debate their is huge bigotry and ignorance on display often!) say that Catholics suffered widespread discrimination in terms of things like jobs, housing etc. for example unemployment was very low amongst Protestants but high amongst Catholics as big employers were dominated by Protestants who tried to generally employ their own kind. Council housing went
