Why has AMOs contact lens solution been recalled?
The FDA has received several reports of Acanthamoeba keratitis which have been linked to the use of Complete MoisturePlus Multi-Purpose Soltuion. Users of the AMO solution have reported eye infections dating back to January 2005. The link between the solution and the infection was identified as a result of an investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which found in a multi-state investigation to evaluate a recent increase in Acanthamoeba keratitis cases, the risk of developing Acanthamoeba keratitis was at least seven times greater for those consumers who used Complete MoisturePlus solution versus those who did not.
