Why has Aaron McGruder stopped publishing the Boondocks?
As previously noted, McGruder is concentrating on his Adult Swim TV cartoon. He has also said, in a talk late last month at a college in Florida, that he got sick of doing the daily newspaper comic strip. He said it was Bush, Bush, Bush all the time, and we already get it that Bush is stupid. But McGruder had been on “hiatus” from doing the daily strip since the spring, for a scheduled six month break. (The strips running the meantime were reruns, as you may have noticed.) He was apparently tired and stressed out from doing the strip daily. Universal Press Syndicate got anxious as early as September whether he was going to resume as scheduled in late November ’06. In November he finally told them that he was not coming back at that time, and would not set any date for ever coming back to the daily strip.
